We are dedicated to helping UK and Irish wildlife to survive in an environment constantly changing due to a reduction of habitat caused largely by the urbanization of the countryside, changes in agricultural practices which deprive our birds and mammals of food sources essential to survival. Also modern buildings both agricultural and domestic which don't provide our birds with the nesting opportunities they once enjoyed in the past.

Everyone has it in their power to do a little to offset the detrimental effects we are inflicting on our wildlife. Supplying food is perhaps the easiest way to help, providing nesting, living and hibernation sites is another and very important one. We make and supply from our online store a wide range of nest boxes, and habitats for birds, mammals and insects. For those with the time, inclination and the facilities you will find on this site plans and instruction which will enable you to build your own.

Some of the causes.

Consider haymaking, a practice which has all but been relegated to history, the making of silage has for the large part taken over, a forage harvester which is essentially a giant rotary lawn mower chops the grass together with all the insects it contains and blows it into a trailer, for transportation to the farm where it is stored in clamps or pits.

In the past the insects or at least a very high proportion of them survived to breed and provide food for other species higher up the food chain. The grass and other plants drying on the ground dropped their seeds, leaving food for seed eating birds and mammals, such as finches, field mice and voles etc, the latter on which the barn owl, the numbers of which in the British Isles has been reduced to around 4,000 pairs.
